About us

A short, condensed history of this website and its origins.

1990 - the beginning

• A small, isolated study group. Intent on discovering all there was to know about European Ancestral religion and culture. Little outside contact for several years. Eventually became the Kindred of Dashwood Mews, and then later, Wodan's Kindred.
• Created an ambitious outreach program in 1993— "Wodanesdag Press".
• First contact made with the Odinic Rite of England in 1994.
• Officially joined the international Asatru/Odinist community in 1995.
• Participated in our first Althing in 1996, making many new friends.
• Rescued Else Christensen (founder of the Odinist Fellowship) from an uncertain fate in 1997, taking her into our homes, providing for her, after she was imprisoned for five years, and then unceremoniously deported to Canada by the U.S. Government.
• Established an outreach website in January 1998 (at Else's encouragement), offering information and support to the Asatru/Odinist community at large.

1993 - founded Wodanesdag Press—Outreach Program of Wodan's Kindred

• Began with the publishing of one leaflet in the summer of 1993.
• Published the now-famous introduction— “the World Tree”, by Edred Wodanson, in 1995. Distributed throughout the Western World, and as far away as Russia (now only available on two audio CDs, as read by the author).
• Received permission from the University of Texas Press, and published the Lee M. Hollander translation of Havamal - Sayings of the High One in December, 1995 (still available today in a special expanded edition).
• Began to print and offer a small collection of original Nordic t-shirt designs.
• Designed and commissioned several Thor's Hammer Pendants.
• Started the trend of properly identifying Asatru/Odinism as an “European Ancestral Religion”, instead of the commonly used, Christian-based titles of "pagan" or "heathen".
• Began a Prison Outreach Program in 1996, eventually assisting thousands of Asatru/Odinist inmates.
• Started the trend of insisting that “Made by Asatruar & Odinists…”, was far superior to “Made in Taiwan”.
• Opened the first, official Kindred Office / Asatru Publishing House in North America, in 1997.

1998 - went online January 21 as "Wodanesdag Press"

• Created an online Catalog of Asatru/Odinist supplies (books, Hammers, mead horns, etc.).
• Acquired the Domain Name “odin.org” in June of that year.
• Originated several innovations like the Virtual Oath Ring, the Electronic Hof, Registry of the Gothar, and others (no longer available).
• Assisted newcomers by answering several thousand e-mails and letters of inquiry.
• Expanded the Catalog to include the largest selection of Norse-related t-shirts on the Internet (limited selection remains - see the secure Wodanesdag - Celtic & Viking Craftworks website).
• Maintained a continuously visitor-supported, commercial-free website, with no banner ads, no pop-ups, and no web-commercials (visit the support page and back this website with a small donation).

2004 - moving on

• Redesigned the website and switched the title to "odin.org" in December 2004, with the renewed goal of introducing European-Americans to their Ancestral religion - minus the politics and agendas so commonly found amongst our peers.

2006 - time for a change

• Moved our Catalog to its own Secure domain: wodanesdag.com —something we should have done years ago. Same great Products and Customer Service (our customers' words—not ours), but in a new location.
See for yourself: wodanesdag.com (opens in a new browser window).

2008 - the work continues...

• In late January the founder of Wodan's Kindred, Wodanesdag Press, and this website, suffered a stroke, halting most activity. Work restarted when his daughter, Freya, offered to take over the operation, hand-making the Thor's Hammer Pendants, etc. After some difficult training, things continued nearly as before. However, the books are no longer hand-bound, the job now handled by a publishing house in the USA.
